The Berkeley Molecular Imaging Center (MIC) was established in 2001 by a joint venture between the Cancer Research Laboratory, the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, and the Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute. The facility is designed to serve the entire campus community from biological research to chemistry, physics and material science applications. In June 2002, the facility moved to its current location in Suite 251 of the Life Science Addition Building (LSA). This facility specializes in multi-photon microscopy (2p and 3p), second harmonic [SHG] imaging, and fluorescent lifetime imaging microscopy [FLIM], and also includes confocal and deconvolution microscopy.

The purpose of the facility is 3-fold:

To provide the latest in imaging technology, which may be too costly for individual labs to purchase and maintain on their own.

To support various research projects by providing imaging expertise, collaboration, or imaging services.

To educate users on the theory and practice of different imaging equipment and techniques.
