The Molecular Imaging Center and the Biological Imaging Facility are pleased to bring you the Advanced Imaging Methods Workshop. This event is held annually on the UC Berkeley main campus and focuses on cutting-edge imaging research. This 3-day workshop features the latest in imaging technology presented by world-renowned scientists. Topics this year will include, but are not limited to:  FRET, multi-photon microscopy, fluorescent lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), calcium imaging, deep-tissue imaging, spectroscopy, single molecule detection techniques, nanotechnology, high resolution techniques, AFM, x-ray crystallography, data collection and analysis, high content imaging and more. This year we will include modalities other than light microscopy.

This workshop is meant for researchers of all levels in the fields of biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, biophysics, chemistry, optics, physics, engineering. It will be advantageous to have some experience in microscopy, but it is not essential. Even beginners will be able to benefit from this workshop and they should definitely plan to attend the earlier sessions meant to bring everyone up to speed on the basics.

All seminar sessions will take place in the Valley Life Sciences Building (VLSB) on campus. In addition to lectures and discussions, many demonstrations and tours will be available. The demonstrations will be held in the Molecular Imaging Center in LSA, the Biological Imaging Facility in Koshland Hall, as well as other locations TBD.

In addition to the seminars and demonstrations, there will be ample opportunity to meet with others in the field and engage in discussions in an informal, friendly setting. Morning pastries, lunch and coffee breaks will be included in the registration, as well as an evening reception and optional tours.

Who Should Attend

The 5th Annual Advanced Optical Methods Workshop is open to anyone seeking more knowledge in the arena of optics and microscopy. This workshop is intended for academic and industry researchers interested in learning about optical microscopy techniques or improving current imaging systems. It is available for all levels of expertise, including graduate students, post-doctorate researchers, primary investigators, technicians, and professional researchers. The earlier sessions in the seminar series will be designed to bring beginners up to speed so they may appreciate the more advanced talks.
